Royal Canadian Air Force

The Royal Canadian Air Force (“RCAF”) formed on April 1, 1924.  The term Royal, dropped from the name in 1968, was returned to the air force in 2011.  Before 1924, Canadians served with the British Royal Flying Corps, which formed in 1912 and amalgamated with the Royal Naval Air Service in April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force.  During the Second World War, the RCAF was involved in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP), home defence, and overseas operations.
