Notes
Robert White came to Canada as a British Home Child. He was assigned to the Dougald Smith family on the 4th Concession of Saugeen Township where he remained for the duration of his term. He then went West to Manitoba, eventually enlisting in November 1915 in Winnipeg with the 90th Battalion, later transferring to the 11th Reserve Battalion and the 8th Battalion.. He reached the firing line early in the spring of 1916 and saw a number of severe engagements at Lens and was slightly injured at Vimy Ridge. Also severely wounded at Hill 70, Lens, August 15, 1917 in a hand to hand fight with bayonets. He was then sent to hospital in England and when sufficiently recovered was again sent to the firing line during this summer (1918) where on October 1 he died of wounds.News Clippings
