Oscar was the son of G. Schwindt of Walkerton, ON. He attended Walkerton High School from 1912-1916, and then Stratford Normal School from 1916-1917. He taught at Walkerton Public School from 1917-1918. Oscar was wounded in an airplane accident in Ireland where he was stationed.
