Notes

Also member of the 4th Railway Battalion. Location at Walkerton Cemetery: Plot # 882 Row 2 Section East. Family Notes: Son of Charles Petteplace and Minna [Riddell]. 1901 Greenock Township census lists siblings Ethel and Charles. Family moved to Victoria St., Walkerton. Father (Charles) remarried Margaret [Malone] and 1911 census lists another sibling: Minetta born 1902. Service Notes: Sailed on SS Metagama 17 Oct 1916, along with several other local soldiers of the 160th Battalion. Spent time at Witley CAmp, Knotty Ash Camp Liverpool, hospitalized 3 weeks Aldershot England, sent to France 30 Mar 1918. Also served with 4th Railway Battalion. When discharged 25 March 1919, William was heading home to Walkerton. He was accidentally shot in the abdomen and died Walkerton, 16 Nov 1923. Death record states he was married and a machinist in a factory.
