Notes

Seven of his children served in the Second World War. Two of those sons were killed overseas: Alfred Joseph and John Joseph. Two more sons were wounded: Charles Donald and Malcolm John. Max, Reginald and Daisy also served in the Canadian Army. In 1972 Mrs. Mary McLeod was selected as the Silver Cross Mother of the year and laid the wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
