Notes

The Wiarton Echo Aug. 22, 1917 headline “Harvey Greig Does Brave Deed” cites his distinguished conduct as a bombing instructor. “[He] had a class out firing rifle grenades when one of the bombs struck the parapet and rolled back into the bay. There were seven men in the bay and they all stood waiting to be blown to kingdom come, except Sergt. Greig, who sprang forward, seized the bomb and threw it over. It had scarcely left his hand when it exploded, but it was over the parapet far enough to save the lives of all who were in the bay.” Harvey is buried in Detroit, MI.
