Notes
George was the son of John and Sarah Cunningham, and husband to Annie E. Tanner. He was killed in action at the charge at Vimy Ridge, and was buried in the 11th Brigade Burying Ground, Vimy Ridge (grave 119), quite close to where he fell. “Circumstances of Casualty” are noted in Cunningham’s personnel file as “Killed in Action – Shortly after leaving the “jumping off” trench in the advance on Vimy Ridge, on the morning of April 9th 1917, he was instantly killed by a bullet from the rifle of an enemy sniper.” Location at Walkerton Cemetery: Row 14 Section N/W.Sources & Links
