Harold Pinkerton, from Pinkerton, Ontario, enlisted in 1914 with the 4th CMR’s (Canadian Mounted Rifles). He arrived with that unit in France in late 1915. Pinkerton was sent to hospital with influenza on the 31st of May, 1916. Two days after he was hospitalized the 4th CMR’s were decimated by the German attack at Mount Sorrel. When Pinkerton was released from hospital on the 5th of June, there would not have been much of his former unit to return to. Pinkerton return to Canada and was granted a commission with another battalion but subsequently joined the RAF. He trained in Texas and in Canada as a pilot but did not return overseas.News Clippings
