Notes

William James (W.J.) Garland was the eldest son of James A. and Elizabeth (Boddy) Garland of Cargill, ON. After graduating from Walkerton High School, he began working for the Traders Bank of Cargill, later the Royal Bank. He followed his career with the bank to Winnipeg, where he enlisted with the 200th Battalion. He served with the 43rd Canadian Infantry Battalion in France.
