Notes

L.B. Carter arrived in Canada around 1910, at the age of 15, after being placed with Barnardo's (along with his brother Lionel, b. July 6, 1902 and his brother Joseph) as a Home Child in the U.K. in 1907. Their father, Harry Carter, died from consumption on April 17, 1907. Their mother, Ellen (Usher) Carter, died from pneumonia on November 23, 1905. Sometime after arrival in Canada,
