Notes

Walter was from the Paisley area. He enlisted with the Royal Dragoons in Toronto, and went overseas with his unit in November of 1941. While in England, he rose through the ranks quickly, finally being nominate by his superiors to take an officer's course of training at Sandhurst Military School. He graduated in August of 1943 as a lieutenant and was transferred to the 12th Manitoba Dragoons. He went to France with that unit early in July of 1944.
