David was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil MacDonald. He was a principal in Parry Public School. David enlisted in the 162nd Battalion, and, as a lieutenant, acted as a recruiting officer. Desiring to fight in the war, he resigned his commission in order to get overseas where he received a commission in the Imperial Army.
