Canadian Officers Training Corps

1914 – 1918

The Canadian Officers’ Training Corps (COTC) was Canada’s first officer training program modeled after the equivalent program in the United Kingdom. McGill University hosted the program in 1912. In the Second World War, the Canadian Army was able to produce high quality officers due to the high standards of the COTC. While the COTC experienced its largest number of participants throughout the mid-1950s, by the 1960s the program had lost Ottawa’s support, and officially dissolved ca. 1968.
